Caberfeidh Horizons is a Social Enterprise which was set up in 2004 to meet a local need to provide training and work experience, in their local community, for adults and young people with a learning disability, mental health issues, addiction problems or who were long term unemployed.
Based in Kingussie in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park we have a dedicated Management Committee, a small, mainly grant funded, staff team (who are managed by Carolyn Cornfield our Project Manager) and the support of over 60 local volunteers. We currently have around 50 clients.
We offer a number of different projects:
Transition and Training Project: Offering training, jobs and employment opportunities and personal development for young people and adults living in the Cairngorms National Park. Click here to find out more about this new project
Gardening: We have an allotment in the village and each year we grow a range of vegetables and flowers which, when harvested, are taken home by each participant.
Health & Fitness: We have weekly Cycling, Swimming, Boccia and Gym sessions, run weekly walks and operate a healthy eating programme.
Crafts: We have lots of craft projects from knitting to papier mache and we sell items to raise funds and often enter our crafts in local shows.
IT Training: Our training suite offers one to one IT training for our client group & the local community.
In partnership with the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland, the Wildlife Wombles work two weekly sessions at the Highland Wildlife Park in nearby Kincraig where they assist the many visitors to the Park and help keep the Park clean and tidy by tidying up areas, brushing boardwalks and picking up litter.
The group are also involved in enrichment projects for the many animals at the Park - for example, making food balls for the red pandas and papier mache Easter eggs!
The Wombles have also completed a 'Photographic year at the Park' timeline project documenting animals, plants, people, weather and the changing Highland seasons which forms an exhibition and the basis of a great film which you can watch below.
