What we do

We run our “First Class Second Hand Bookshop” in Kingussie at 14 High Street. The Bookshop was founded to help adults and young people with learning difficulties and disabilities. It offered an opportunity to be trained in a workplace environment - in particular, one which was appropriate for their abilities and was set in the heart of the community.

With the help of our wonderful team of dedicated volunteers and staff, the objective is that clients may then be able to enter the employment sector or further education or they may simply have improved their confidence and social skills.

With three rooms in the shop, all our books are sorted, cleaned, valued and shelved by our team of volunteers. We have a wide range of fiction, classic fiction, poetry, non-fiction and Scottish interest. We accept donations of books every day across the road at our Community Hub. For any enquiries regarding books, call 01540 661000.

Tourist Information

At the end of 2019, Caberfeidh Horizons entered into an agreement with the Cairngorm National Park Authority to continue to provide tourist information in our Bookshop for the many visitors to the area. This followed Visit Scotland ceasing to support Partnership Visitor Information Centres across the Highlands.

Staff, volunteers and clients continue to provide this important service, giving out high-quality information about Badenoch and Strathspey and the wider National Park. We have a well-stocked leaflet stand with information from visitor attractions and activity providers across the National Park where visitors can pick up promotional material.
